Rainbow Row - my entry into this month's Year of Schnibble's parade - is complete and the houses are ready for someone to move in!
The pattern is Full House by Carrie Nelson.
The fabric used was Sassy by Sandy Gervais.
I had a plan to FMQ each of the houses differently so first I did an all over basic meander everywhere but the outer border and houses. The outer border got a wavy line treatment. Then I did each house differently than its neighbor. I am very pleased with the finished results but can't say I really achieved enough variety in the FMQ of each house. Right now, I didn't do anything to the roofs. Still thinking about that. (Wish I had left the doors alone as well.)
I had a lot of fun with this pattern. Not sure I'll join in every month but I am now excited, waiting for the parade and the unveiling of the February pattern. (For more information, go here or here.)

I just wanted to say thank you for the blog comments that were left this week. They made me smile throughout a very stressful week and I thank you. I needed the smile.
For those who asked, here is the stats on my Cinnamon Swirl quilt:
Pattern was in the book Scrap-Basket Surprises. The pattern is written for jelly rolls but it was very easy to adapt to what I had on hand - a layer cake and 2 charm packs. I also made it slightly smaller than the pattern was written to.
Fabric used was Primitive Gatherings by Moda.
My LAQ is Cathy Kirk and I had her do an over swirl pattern - I don't know the name of the pattern.
Quilt finished roughly 55 by 65.

Introducing Cinnamon Swirl all back from the LAQ and binding attached.
I took these photos on Sunday when the weather was cold and drizzling so the best I could do was a photo on the back porch and the rest are indoor. I went with a black binding and I am happy with how it frames the quilt.
I am not sure of the name of the overall quilting pattern but it is a swirl (hence the name). The back is flannel from my stash. Here is a closeup of the quilting front and back.
Left to do is attach my label and then through the washer and dryer for the 'cuddle' step. Then it will be off in the mail to my brother-in-law.
(Note, this label came from a fabric panel all of labels from Sandy Gervais. There is quite the variety to choose from.)

Auditioning a name for my Jacob's Ladder quilt - I've 6 blocks done. This is my leader and ender quilt.

Fun time in my sewing studio corner of the bonus room last night while my daughter watched a movie. I did some basic piecing of two quilts in progress but also did my January's practice FMQ as part of SewCalGGal's 2012 challenge.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce my first FMQ of leaves.
I was pleased with the result - not sure that they all look really like leaves but it was the first time I've deviated from the basic stipple FMQ.
Next up was a little FMQ of fabric I will be making a small bag with. Darn, wouldn't you know it - I went right back to my old standard. I looked at this blank canvas and couldn't figure out what to do so basic stipple it was!
I decided I'd better get right back on the bicycle and try again. I selected a cute piece of fabric that I'll make a iTouch holder for a niece and decided that my leaves could easily become hearts.
Of course you can't see it very well in the photo but I did it! It was a lot harder to see my quilting as I went (white on white) but there truly are hearts on there!
Looking forward to the February challenge!

On a cold winter weekend, it was great fun constructing houses that look like they belong on a warm island somewhere.
I think I want to live in this one!

Sound like the title of a cheap thriller movie?
Nope.
My Saturday night! DH out of town, DS is away at school, DD#2 was at a friends and DD#1 went to sleep early. I ended up with the house by myself at 9pm - this never happens!
So, I poured a glass of wine, popped in an old favorite dvd .....
and proceeded to rip back to the pinwheel blocks. Over the summer, I had attempted to assemble the blocks in a wonky way and I was not liking where this was heading.
I decided to start over. They will still be set on angle but I will do this a different way.

With no particular plan in mind, I bought up quantities of I Love Lucy themed fabric two years ago.
One of my sisters loves Lucy.
For her birthday in 2010, I made her this:
For her birthday in 2011, I made her trivets with another printed Lucy panel (can't find that photo.)
For her upcoming significant birthday, I will be making her a quilt.
I've not yet figured out the pattern. Some of the fabric would be best fussy cut. I am thinking about stars where the star center is Lucy themed fabric and the star points are a solid. The whole thing would be on white background. But I am very much open to ideas and suggestions.
Any thoughts on how best to showcase my fabric but at the same time not allow it to take over the quilt and make one dizzy?

He comes from a book called Count on It by Nancy Halverson. There are a series of blocks you can make - one for each month and some extra for birthdays.
Now I just need to find some coal buttons for his eyes and mouth.

A few months ago, I won this delicious pile of Kona fat quarters from Lily's Quilts.
I cracked them open this weekend in order to make the first block in my solids In Color Order HST quilt a long.
I like making HST. One of the the things I like about this year long quilt a long is that I can pre-cut a whole bunch of the 4 inch squares, draw my line on the white squares and stack them ready for the next block! Assembly will go much quicker that way.

Two years ago, I decided to make quilts to celebrate as each of my sister's reached a particularly significant birthday milestone.
For my first sister, I made this quilt - which I called Fabulous.
My DH's brother hit that birthday last August and I decided that why not include my DH's siblings in my significant birthday quilt gifting. (Between my DH and myself, there are 8 siblings.) Finally got this one pieced over the holiday break. This quilt doesn't yet have a name.
The fabric is Primitive Gatherings. The pattern is called Moca Twist from the book Scrap-Basket Surprises. I had purchased a layer cake of the fabric in one of Missouri Quilting's deal of the day without a plan for it. I also had two charm packs of the fabric purchased with the intent to make the Full House Schnibble quilt. The layer cake and two charm packs were perfect for this quilt (A jelly roll would have worked even better!). The backing will be from my stash - I've a deep brown flannel that will make this quite the cuddle quilt.
The quilt finished at lap quilt size. For some bizarre reason, I am tempted to FMQ it myself on my little machine instead of taking it to the LAQ. I quilt smaller things all the time - guess I am feeling more confident about my skills as well as lulled into thinking I'll have all this free time. I haven't yet decided which way to go - since the gift is already late, a little more time won't matter.

Back to work tomorrow after enjoying quite the nice break with the family. I found time each day for quilting or stitching (!!!!), time to declutter some of the house, family games and walks. The weather in NC has just been wonderful - warm and sunny especially for December.
On New Years Eve, I made some homemade bread using a very simple recipe. It tasted really good - my DD could have eaten the whole thing at one sitting. I always start making bread this time of year and keep it up for about 5-6 weeks and then move on. (Basic bread recipe.)
With this bread, I did make wonderful french toast New Year's morning. I staged a photo to remember how pretty I can actually plate food! (French toast recipe)
Much stitching was done - I started a quilt for a relative. Here is one of the blocks - more of this is actually done but no photos yet.
