More Ts

Earlier this week, I made reference to extra T blocks from my Bibelot Schnibble.

I decided to assemble them in a 3x3 and then framed it with an inner border.

Then, I decided how cool it would be to put an outer border from this fabric
while I fussy cut the typewriter from the one remaining charm square.

I put in an order for the fabric and can't wait to finish.  This will finish roughly 21 x 21 inches.  This one will be a gift!

Enough?

Remember Romance?  I mean my quilt Romance?

In this photo, it measures 8 blocks by 5 blocks and the final size I am aiming for is 8 blocks by 7 blocks.  (These are 9 inch blocks.)

I made another 8 blocks this weekend but paused before I cut any more fabrics.  The question is whether or not I have enough to get 8 more blocks.

I have a 9 inch wide of the floral and about 11 inches wide of the red.   I already a couple of HST that I didn't yet use, some of the tan floral 4 inch squares and one 2 inch strip of the red.   I also have some reject 4 patch blocks where things didn't line up so well that could perhaps be repaired.   I am pretty sure I can make this work but decided to step back and really plan before I cut any more fabric.  I am NOT buying anymore!

Have a good week.

Typewrite - This Month's Schnibble!

I finished my flimsy for this month's Schnibble in AYOS.

The pattern was Bibelot.  I used a single charm pack of Circa 1934.  The pattern called for an array of 49 T block (7x7) but I decided to make it smaller and go 4x4 so that it would fit in a spot in my home office.

The mini finishes at about 26" square.  I was thinking of doing straight line quilting.  I've done this for bags but never for an actual quilt.  I think it will be a cool finish.

I ended up with 9 spare squares - just enough for a 3 x 3.  I don't have enough charms left for a pieced border so I need to give this some thought.  More on that later this week.

A bunch of T blocks

Hasn't been much time this week to week to sew but I did make a little progress on my T blocks.

My idea to make the Schnibble Bibelot with 25 blocks instead of 49 is something I am happy about.  If I've calculated things right, with a little bit of extra fabric I can still make the border out of the remaining 17 charms!

One of my favorite things about making these Schnibble's is I get to play with different fabric lines.  This particular one is so different from Ruby, for example, which I used to make my Journey quilt that I blogged about earlier in the week.  Using very different fabric lines is like being in a candy store - so much to love!

One of my favorite designers is Sweetwater.  They just posted information about their latest fabric line today on their blog and I am in love!  I really do enjoy fabric with text printed on it and their color choice always sing out to me.

Have a great weekend.

Butterscotch and Journey

I had time to put the finishing touches on two Schnibbles this weekend.

My favorite is Butterscotch using charm packs of Butterscotch & Roses and bound with a print from the line.  The pattern is Lincoln. Watching a movie Saturday night gave me time to get the binding sewn on.

My DD has claimed this next one - Journey - made with a charm pack of Ruby and the pattern ISTH.  She will be hanging this in her room.  The quilt name initially came from the step I took in my FMQ but drawing a design on the fabric and then quilting over it.  Since my daughter is about to enter high school in the fall, the quilt name takes on a new meaning!  (See this blog post for more on my quilting journey.)

I've linked both of these finishs up to Such a Sew and Sew March 2012 linky party.

Loops and Stars

Had a productive FNSI and FMQ my Butterscotch Schnibble.

The fabric is Moda Butterscotch & Roses and the pattern is a Schnibble pattern called Lincoln.

For the FMQ pattern, I choose an overall pattern of loops and stars.

Some of my loops collided with the stars but overall I am happy.

I am participating in SewCalGal's FMQ challenge and this month's guest - Ann Fahl - had wonderful tips about FMQ and Stars and Loops were a suggested pattern.  I am starting to assemble my book of FMQ patterns as she suggested.  On this journey beyond stippling, it is the idea that causes me the most pain - keeping a notebook will help.

Finally, don't forget to place your vote for the Golden Quilting Awards hosted by SewCalGal!

Schnibble Bibelot

This month's Schnibble is Bibelot (which means a small object of curiosity).  I decided to use my Circa 1934 fabric.   I made a few sample blocks - they go together really fast.  (Except for the dotted one - which I had to assemble 3 times before I got it right.)

The pattern calls for 49 T blocks but I am going to make it smaller - either 25 (5x5) or 16 (4x4).  I am just using a single charm pack.  I've some fat quarters from the line so I have some options for the border.  I may call the quilt Typewriter given one of the prints has typewriter keys on it.  (Still thinking about the name.)

I was lucky and won two blog giveaways recently.  The first is two sets of fat quarters from the Dear Stella line.  This was on Jaybird Quilts and sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop.  Upon seeing the fabric, my DD (13 yrs old) claimed a quilt made from it.  She loves the modern prints.

I also won this cute Shamrock pattern from Seams Like Dream and they sent along some fun fabric as well.

Thanks Julie & Fat Quarter Shop as well as Kate and Elizabeth.  I feel lucky!

16 blocks to go

Made an additional ten blocks for my Jacobs Ladder quilt.  I've now 5 of the 7 rows done and (now) sewn together.

16 blocks to go which means 64 HST and 80 4 patches (but whose counting.)

HST Quilt along - month 3

Got block 3 done  - this is quite the fun quilt.  More information about this quilt along is here.  (The whites in these photos should all be the same so you can see the color in my newest block photo is off!)

Here are my other two blocks:

And this is the stack of lovely fabric I am using!

Past the halfway point

I am making 9 inch blocks for my Jacobs Ladder quilt which means for the quilt to measure 72 x 63, I need 56 blocks.  I am now at 29 blocks so I have crossed the 1/2 way point!!!

For the remaining 27 blocks, I've calculated I need 135 4-patch blocks and 108 HST blocks.  I've got a stack of about 11 blocks worth of HST so progress continues...

I've a deadline with my LAQ at the end of April so off I go to make more 4 patches!
(Fabric details are here.)

Believe (update)

My daughter (and I) thoroughly enjoyed the Celtic Woman concert on Friday.  I had purchased our tickets through PBS and donated enough to get 'meet & greet' passes.  We met Mairead & Chloe.  Both of these ladies were sweet and charming.  They were a bit hesitant to sign the quilt but with a little bit of coaxing, they autographed it!

Believe

My daughter (16) is a major league fan of the Irish singing group Celtic Woman.  In September, we traveled to Atlanta and were part of the audience for the live taping of their DVD. Any CW fans out there in blog land?  Many a Friday night my DD will listen to one of their DVDs from our Bonus Room which houses my sewing corner.  This was an amazing event and we had a blast.  It was so fun to be there and share it with my daughter!  Traveling to see a show must make us groupies .... never been a groupie before.  Makes you feel young.   (This was one of our favorites - many more to see on YouTube.)

Tonight my DD and I are going to see them in concert in Raleigh.   The title of their latest DVD, CD and tonight's concert is Believe so I made my daughter a mini-quilt to celebrate.
