Buttons

This is my Schnibble Little Bites Mite made for this month's parade.   The fabric used is Moda Little Apples, all carefully arranged to get the color all going the right way.

I did a spiral quilting with my walking foot and just love the way it looks.

I decided to call the quilt Buttons.  I can not really explain why!

Parade tomorrow at Sinta's and Sherri's blogs.

Spring! (the quilt, not the season)

I just had to take a snow picture!  This was the Friday after all the snow fell the previous Wednesday.

This was a gift for a very special Aunt.  I mailed it to her and obsessively tracked the package until it arrived on her doorstep.  She loves it and is making my uncle paint the walls of one of the rooms to map one of the colors in the quilt.  (My uncle is not so happy.)   My Aunt gives a lot to others.  She knits and sew garments but has never quilted.  Turns out no one has ever given her a gift like this before so she was thrilled.  Giving a quilt to someone who really appreciates it is the best.

A close up prior to binding - I just love the overall fan quilting.   Cathy Kirk is my LAQ - she did a wonderful job.   This fabric is Moda Flats.  I used one of the prints from the line as the backing fabric.

The binding for this quilt and one other was my February goal (post here) for Another Lovely Year of Finishes.   (No photos of the other yet - it is a gift for someone who reads my blog.)

I'll be linking up here!

A crack in time

It may look like a smile but it is actually a crack in time!   This was the final block I am making from the Dr Who paper piecing quilt along.

I now have 11 blocks and have planned out a really fun way to set up this quilt.  Here are my other blocks:

and one more

Before I can assemble, I need to remove all the paper backing.  What a chore this is!

This weekend, I also completed the next step in Melissa's Start Bright quilt-a-long was to create the center star.   I'm using Moda Scrumptious fabric.  So pretty.

Time to shop my stash!

I've been working on cleaning up my sewing spot and discovering fabric I forgot I actually had.

Before:

I bought two packages of these comic book boards and now have my fabric all on display.  Very fun to shop my stash now!  Still some organization to do but getting so much better!

And given that I used 200 boards and can still use more(!), I am going to concentrate on using my stash for awhile and resist major fabric purchases. (And for the record, I said 'major'... I will give myself permission for a little fabric treat now and then.)

Finally, some boxes for my shelf.  The larger ones are project boxes and the smaller ones are getting some scraps organized.

Now off to sew!

River Song's Journal

Dr Who fan's will (hopefully!) recognize River Song's journal - the book where she keeps track of when and where she meets up with the Doctor's timeline.

Finally got another block done!   This is my 10th.  Here are the others

These blocks are all from the Dr Who paper piecing quilt along.  There are 20 blocks in all and I've skipped a few.

This will be a wall hanging and I'm going after a 3 by 4 block setting.  That means I've 2 more block to make.  I'm having a bit of trouble deciding!

We need a new Groundhog!

We've had wild weather here in NC just like much of the east coast.

On Wednesday, it was a very heavy snowfall.  Managed to snap a picture of an  unusual sight here in NC - two snowplows!

Then on Thursday it was ice and then more snow.

On Friday we had sunshine and temps that reached 60 degrees so much melting occurred.  Then a miserable rainy day on Saturday.

Bring on spring!

Until then, I assembled the top for my Schnibble.  Free choice this month so I am doing a Little Bites pattern called Mite and using the single charm pack I had of Little Apples.

I had great fun placing the fabric.  I am thinking of doing a spiral quilting with my walking foot.  What do you think?

I also completed my HST which wasthis week's step in Melissa's Start Bright quilt-a-long.   I'm using Moda Scrumptious fabric.  So pretty.

Have a great week!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I've been working on organizing my creative space (i.e. corner of our bonus room) over the last few weeks and found a panel from what I think was a Sandy Gervais line from a few years ago.   Looked like a great project to practice my FMQ.   Here is a close up of my in progress.  I outlined the shapes and then filled in the remaining area with an all over meander.

I did the FMQ over two sessions and it was quite a lot of fun.  I did manage to fold over and quilt part of the fold over  without realizing it.  But quick work by my seam ripper and a requilt and you'd never know I had the mishap!

I cut off the Happy Valentine's Day part of the panel and will use this in a table runner or another smaller quilt in the future.

Did some fancy heart stitches for the border.

Enjoy the day - may it be filled with fabric and roses.

And may spring arrive SOON!

We had snow then sleet & ice and then more snow over the last two days.   Woke up to a world all covered in ice.   I didn't go into the office so avoided all the craziness.  But I also did work from home so didn't get to my machine.

Computer sleeve

My daughter is a major fan of David Archuletta - from American Idol fame.   She just loves him - her friends call her Mrs Archuletta.

She just celebrated a birthday and we gave her a Chrome Notebook to speed up all her youtube video watching of David.

I made a sleeve for her new computer.  I uploaded a photo to Spoonflower and ordered a swatch for just a few dollars.

She loves it!

The design is very simple and the same concept I've used before to make a sleeve for my ipad.

Happy Birthday dear sweet daughter!

Enjoying the process

Ever find yourself with a bit extra stress because of self-induced deadlines?

I did that to myself last week - pushing myself to make great progress on various quilting projects for no reason other than I decided progress was required.

Decided to change that this weekend.  Enjoying the process of creating is what it is ALL about!

I worked on several little projects.

Decided on my next Schnibble project and had so much fun actually sorting through all the lovely charm squares to plan things out.  I love aqua and red so they will play the staring role.

I love making geese so quite enjoyed Melissa's step in the Start Bright quilt-a-long and made some geese!

Made a house to join the snowman I made for Quilt Doodle Doodle quilt a-long.   I will be doing this one as a wall hanging.  As you can see in this photo borrowed from Cindy's blog, there will be 6 small rows and on row with large blocks in the center.  I decided to make my house block but not yet sew on the large block of sky until later.  One of these Feb / Mar / May / Sept blocks may go on the back to reduce the width of the quilt.   Or perhaps one of the rows to reduce the height.  Loving the mystery so decided to make 'most' of the block and decide once the quilt reveals itself how much more sky to add.

Neighborhood

I just love the mini-house quilt pattern from Thimble Blossoms.

Working with scraps only, I assembled this simple version and did some FMQ. I need to trim up and add the binding.

These houses are addictive so I'm off to make more!

Spring

Spring just came home from the spa.  Isn't she pretty?

I just love the overall fan quilting.   Cathy Kirk is my LAQ - she did a wonderful job.

This fabric is Moda Flats.  I used one of the prints from the line as the backing fabric.

Next up is a binding and a quilt label.  This is a 'just because' gift for a special relative.

The binding for this quilt and one other is my February goal for Another Lovely Year of Finishes.   Off to bind I go!

Progress report

I am in no rush to finish my Celtic Solstice quilt - happy to have the main body assembled!

I now need to work on more blocks for the outer border - the ones with red on the left.  I spent time this weekend taking inventory and cutting fabrics to make more of the border block.

Linking up my progress on Bonnie's blog.

I cut out the fabrics for the Star Light Star Bright quilt a long.  There are so many choices on sizes.  I am going for a one block version - really enjoying making smaller projects.

Everything is cut out and ready to go!  I will link up to Melissa's blog.
