Christmas Star

I'm not sure I actually want to know how many days there are until Christmas.

I do have my quilt done though!

This pattern for this quilt came from a modification to the Schnibble Harvey pattern.   First, I made it a star instead of a basket.  The size of the squares are also smaller to ensure I had enough of the gold fabric.

I did an all over stipple FMQ.  It was a lot of fun.  The quilt measures 40" square.

Schnibble parade time Saturday at A Quilting Life and Pink Pincushion blog.

This finish was my October goal for ALYOF and I'll be linking up here.   My goal post was here.

Welcome to the pumpkin patch

Meet my good buddies Joe and Jim.   My usual quilt holders were otherwise busy and these two fine gentlemen lent me a hand for the photo shoot!

I used 3 of the fabrics from the Black Cat Crossing line to make this pumpkin patch quilt.  The richness of color is just incredible.  Made me smile through the whole creative process.

The fabric was so gorgeous I then had to create one more thing so I paired up with some solids in stash and made this table runner.  (Actually made two runners and gifted one of them.)

Isn't my little pumpkin cute?

You can find many tutorials for the maple leaf pattern all over the web.

The pattern for my pumpkin patch can be found in my Craftsy store.  I used different threads to quilt each of the pumpkins.

I love my sweet little witches hair!

This pattern was paper pieced.  I just love the dot fabric from the Black Cat Crossing line - thought it went well here!

If you've not visited the other lovely ladies I am sharing today with - please do so.  I'm sure they' something wonderful planned.

This little guy is sitting down on the job!  I need a new quiltholder!

Thanks for Wendy and Mdmn Samm for another wonderful hop.  I've enjoyed all the wonderful projects this week made with the Black Cat Crossing fabric line.

From the farm - blocks 45 - 47

Continuing my farm progress.  Seeing these blocks might get a bit boring for everyone but I love the blog as a way to record my progress.

#45 - Grape Basket - There sure have been a lot of basket so far.  This one was fun

#46 - Hill and Valley

#47 - Homemaker - the dreaded y seam.  Boy was this a tough block! And it is certainly crooked.  Perhaps I'll make it again.  (And no idea where that slightly large piece of red scrap came from.)

As I've finished each group of 20, I frame each one of them to either put them on point or put sashing around them.  Those that are sized well get the sashing which allows me to then cut them down to the right size.

Here are my first 40 blocks so far.  There is a LOT of red.  Better placement would help but I also think I need more blocks with gray.

Hello Sweetie - Blogger's Quilt Festival Entry

I am excited to enter Hello Sweetie into Blogger's Quilt Festival in the large quilt category.

Hello Sweetie was my first quilt finish using paper piecing.  The blocks came from the Dr Who paper piecing quilt along.  I decided on the final setting because I wanted the blocks to float across the quilt.

Fall 2014 BQF ButtonI have this hanging in our bonus room where I can see it from my sewing corner.  I put the Weeping Angel on the edge so she is looking towards the corner of the room where the dust bunnies live.  The fish tank right below her should be safe - fish don't have eye lids and therefore can't blink!

I really went to town in the quilting I did on the individual blocks and had so much fun!   Here is Gallifrey:

The Dalek (my favorite villein)

and the Hello Sweetie block itself.

I so much enjoyed sharing my quilt as part of the virtual quilt show.  Any other Doctor Who fans out there?  Who is your favorite doctor?

Please enjoy the other quilts in the festival.  I've also entered a quilt into the Original Design Category.    (my blog post)

Cupcake Picnic - Blogger's Quilt Festival

Fall 2014 BQF Button

I'm entering my quilt Cupcake Picnic into Blogger's Quilt Festival into the Original Design category.

This quilt is my own design and I used a charm pack of Kona along with straight line quilting to make this rainbow of flying geese.

I named this quilt Cupcake Picnic.

This quilt was part of a blog hop sponsored by Sew We Quilt. (link to my original post.).  I took my 3 wonderful kids - two teenage girls and my twenty year old son - on a picnic on Mother's Day.  While one could argue that the highlight of the picnic was the cupcakes or maybe even the quilt, it actually was just being together.  It was fun and still feels like a hug many months later.

I am happy to be linking this quit up in Blogger's Quilt Festival!

Here is a link to my other quilt I'm entering into the large category plus, just for fun, the link to the quilts I entered in the Spring version of the show here and here.

Bonnie Hunter's new mystery quilt

Bonnie Hunter has announced her new mystery quilt.  Her colors are pink, green, turquoise and yellow with the use of black and a white or cream.   I want to use the Fig Tree Somerset line.  I need 4 contrasting colors and then will use the dark brown as the black.

I tore open a mini charm pack to look at color selections.

Seems like a lot of contrast laid out that way.  But not so much laid out this way.  Since it is a mystery, I'll have no control.

So thinking about the gray-ish color instead.

Which combination do you like best?  Do you think the bottom one has enough contrast?

From the farm - blocks 42 - 44

I continue to stay on schedule with 3 blocks per week in my Farmer's Wife.  Paper piecing is working out well.

#42 - Fruit Basket

#43 - Garden Path - I had a lot of trouble with this block as you might be able to tell from the picture.  It doesn't look like it will square up all that well.

#44 - Gentlemen's Fancy - I had fun making this one.  The red isn't as intense in real life as it is in the photo.

Friends from the farm - blocks 38-41

A lot of friendly blocks this week

#39 - Friendship

#40 - Friendship block

#41 - Friendship star.  This blue is probably my favorite of all the fabrics and I've so very, very little left.  (sigh)

Here are all the blocks so far in two group photos.

A fun use of a mini charm pack

I adapted my Pretty Trash bag pattern used a mini charm pack of Miss Kate.

I had a great aqua print in my stash for the inside.

The best part of these bags is how to keep them pretty.  Line them with a plastic gallon bag - the kind with the twist ties.  Works like a charm!

You can find the pattern for this Pretty Trash bag at Craftsy - my first pattern!

Red and White mini

SewCalGal sponsored a Red / White quilt challenge.  I did a cute little mini to hang in my front hallway in December.

It is fun to do the straight line quilting - it gives it so much texture.

I'll be linking up here.

50 states

Remember the 50 state license plate blog tour to show off American Brand Fabrics?   My NC block is on my side bar with a link to the free pattern.

My block and the 49 other blocks is now in an official quilt!!

Picture from the Works

See those lighthouses in the blue block 4 rows up from the bottom?  That is mine!

But doesn't everything look fabulous together.  I love the way each block was first framed in gray and then the white sashing.  The red and blue borders bring the whole color patriotic color palette together.

Picture from The Works

These pictures were from the blog The Works.  You can find information on how to get to the pattern  on that post.

Here is the link to my original post back in May.   This quilt will show at Market - hope I get to actually see it some day.

from the farm blocks 36 - 38

Three more blocks from the farm.  Once I get 2 more done, I'll have my second batch of 20 and I can do a group photo shoot.

#36 - Flower Path - this block has a few issues.  There were y-seams involved and it looks like the block is a bit out of shape.  Not sure if I'll redo it or not.

#37 - Flower Pot - I avoided the y seams on this one with some cheating.

#38 - Four Winds - this one was a lot of work!

October Schnibble plus ALYOF

My October goal for ALYOF is to quilt my Schnibble.  I ordered the backing fabric this weekend.

The challenge was to make Harvey but I didn't like the basket so I adapted the pattern to be a star instead.  For reference, here is a picture of the pattern itself.

I am skipping the outer border as well.   I had a lot of fun with the color placement in the center.

This was all from the stash.  The gold fabric (which is so pretty in person) is leftovers from a backing from another quilt.  I had just enough for what is shown plus the binding!

I'll be linking up here
