Pebbles

Our ALYOS pattern was a Little Bites pattern called Sample.   I broke open a batik charm pack and had fun.

I am calling this mini Pebbles.  The mix of colors reminded of a stream full of rocks and the circular quilting the pattern the water makes after you throw a pebble in the water.

The sample pattern includes more blocks but I choose to make 9 of them:

Top row: Three & Six, Pennsylvania   , Churn Dash
Middle row:  Split 9-Patch,  Air Castle, Wild Geese
Bottom Row:  True Blue, Ohio Star, Eclectic Star

I love, love, love this mini.  The quilt finished at 19" square.

I love do spiral quilting and this mini was quick and easy.   I've a tutorial if you are interested.

Parade time later this week on Sheri's blog A Quilting Life and Sinta's Pink Pincushion blog.

Farmer's Wife 100 - 102

Coming down the home stretch here!

#100 - Weathervane - the photo doesn't really do this one justice - blue really pops in person

#101 - Wedding Ring - I was down to just scraps for the gray dot.  Happy to have found enough.

#102 -  Whirlpool - get to do this block again with #107.  Different color placement and different name!

Nine blocks to go!!

Ready for the spa

My March goal for ALYOF was to finish my Grand Illusion's quilt top - this year's Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt.  All done and ready for the spa (aka my LAQ.)  This will be a gift for a friend.

I'll be linking up at Another Lovely Year of Finishes .  My goal setting post was here.

Catching up on my blocks

Got started making blocks for this month ALYOS.  I broke open a charm pack of batiks.    I've got 4 blocks done so far!\

These are called:
top row:  : Star , Pennsylvania
bottom row: Wild Geese, Split 9 patch

These are a lot of fun to make.  Each block is 5 1/2 inches.

I also got my flowers down for my Elephant Parade.

Need to lay my blocks all out together and decide if I want to make more elephants or go with a smaller quilt.

Sew Fresh Quilts has designed this wonderful Elephant Parade quilt.  Come join the fun.  I'll be linking up here at Sew Fresh Quilts.

Block 3 of the Snapshots quilt along is a tea pot.  I'm using Moda Miss Kate for this one

Block 2 - Sew on and Sew on:

Block 1 - Let them Eat Cake:

You can find the pattern for this month's block here and more information on the Fat Quarter Shop page.  Besides the fun of building the quilt, this is all about donating to St Jude.

World Down Syndrome Day

Today, March 21 is World Down Syndrome day.  There is significance to the date chosen - 21st day of the 3rd month which represents the trisomy of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

In 2011, the UN General Assembly designated March 21 as World Down syndrome day to be observed to raise public awareness of Down syndrome.

I am the proud mom of 3 kids and my middle child - my lovely 19 year old daughter - has Down syndrome.

She loves all things dance and music and takes both ballet and violin lessons. She is a major league fan of Celtic Woman and we have tickets for their concert 2 weeks from now (!!!!)

My daughter loves her schedule.  Each Saturday includes lunch with mom at a favorite fast food place.  Sunday's are a picnic and walk in a local park.   If it is to cold to eat outside, we eat in the car before our walk.  Friday nights find us watching a movie - usually a Celtic Woman dvd - in our bonus room and I spend the time quilting.

Today is also Worldwide Quilting Day - always the 3rd Saturday in March.   This year I get to celebrate two of my favorite things on one day!

Hope your weekend is a good one.  I know mine will be.

Love you my CW Buddy!

Farmer's Wife 97-99

One of the interesting parts of paper piecing is sometimes all you need is the smallest of pieces of fabric so saving your scraps really works.   Even the smallest scrap could fit.  The piece below came out of an extra block that never made it into a quilt.

Given how frugal I have been - what an appropriate name for block 97!

#97 - Waste Not

#98 - Waterwheel

#99 - WTCU

12 blocks to go!!!!

The fabric from Rina arrived Tuesday!  She sent me 2 blue pieces so I've enough to finish the quilt and don't have to unpick any more blocks to find small scraps.

The envelope took 1 month to go from Missouri to North Carolina.  Along the way it came to North Carolina, then went off to Arizona, then California then back to North Carolina.  Once back in North Carolina, it has been shuffled back and forth between 2 major cities until finally arriving in my mailbox.    Whew!   Thanks to Rina and Julie I've the right amount of fabric to finish my quilt.

Blog friends are the best!

Tweet Street

Welcome to Tweet Street!

Looks like that little bird is coming to check out some of the vacant birdhouses here on Tweet Street.

We don't get snow all that often here in NC so I had to run out and get some photos!  This table runner is now sitting on my hall table bringing a taste of Spring into the house.

I have a collection of  birdhouses so choosing this birdhouse fabric from Elizabeth's Studio was an easy decision.

I fussy cut around each house and had fun adding the detail.

I also made a small zipped pouch.  (My daughter claimed this one!)

Since I couldn't get a live bird to photo bomb my quilty photos, I had to make my own little guy.  Isn't he cute?

Bird pincushion pattern is from Sharon Holland Designs.

Now sip your tea and join me in visiting all the other lovely ladies as part of today's hop -

Happy Pie Day!

Chocolate creme pie!  So happy my daughter loves bake.

I'm such a math geek - I scheduled this post for 9:26 so I'd have the right time stamp!

My daughter is equally a math geek because she won't let us cut a piece until 9:26.

Farmer's Wife 94 - 96

Blue blocks!!!!!!

These were all a lot of fun to make.

#94 - Tall Pine Tree

#95 - Temperance Tree

#96 - Tulip

A few weeks ago, I posted a fabric wanted post because I was out of both of the blue fabric from Vintage Modern I was using in the quilt.    (The photo below is the truest fabric color.)

Julie from Calgary had a F8 of the blue dot and generously sent it to me along with a couple of other pieces from the Vintage Modern line.  Wasn't that wonderful?  I used that F8 to make these 3 blocks and used slightly less that half of it.  I should easily get another 3-4 blocks out of what is left.   Whew!

Rina, another new blogging friend, sent fabric too but somehow the US post office hasn't delivered it after several weeks.  :-(

I so much appreciate my new friends sending along some fabric.

Zip purses and cupcakes

Last weekend, I made these for some new friends.

My daughter made this.

Lemon cupcakes with cream cheese frosting with a sprinkle of yellow sugar.

So good.  So yummy.

I like my bags but I love the cupcakes.

Elmer

Remember this book?

I wanted for make my own version of Elmer for my Elephant Parade quilt.  Instead of basic patchwork, I did a crazy quilt version using tiny solid scraps.

What do you think?

I made 3 other elephants as well and now have the beginnings of a herd!

New this week were these birds - were just so fun and so cute to put together!

Here is what my parade looks like so far!  Didn't realize that the sun was making this picture not the best ... but I'm not complaining that the sun was out!

Flowers are this weeks blocks and then I have to decide how many more elephants to make.

Sew Fresh Quilts has designed this wonderful Elephant Parade quilt.  Come join the fun.  I'll be linking up here at Sew Fresh Quilts.
